Art Appreciated

Just came back from Joseph Lofton's oil painting exhibition opening event in New Orleans, sponsored by the artist family. I think the exhibition illustrates a special meaning as the best collection of the artist's works spanning over four decades. The show will continue for 2 months at the prestigious Stella Jones Gallery near the French Quarter. The price tags are surprisingly low. I heard three pieces were sold at the opening and one is in a commitment.

Lofton, in his nineties, is truly a unique, outstanding painter in our time. The gallery views his art world as "focus on a wide range of themes, most notably social commentary, found harmony and a spiritual bond in African and Mexican designs and a meaningful connection to Indian art". I recommend this exhibition.

The painter, Joseph Lofton, is one of a kind hybrid modern artist full of color and emotion from Latin and African backgrounds yet within today's American boundary. To my knowledge this is one of only few exhibitions shown from over 200 his collections. I hope more museums and galleries will host his exhibitions.
