A cleverly constructed modernistic composition that begs the viewer to consider the details. On careful examination one discovers the underlying drawing is a town with various buildings outlined; ordinary houses, restaurants and a church which is slightly off center dominates the composition. What appears as abstract patterns in the work in pink, blue and green colors turn out to be delightful images of windows, trees and doors. The brilliant orange background activates those different colors creating a jewel-like effect.

Lofton’s years of academic training at the Art Student League in design and color theory are prominently on display here. The push and pull of positive and negative space, rhythms, patterns such musical elements in jazz which Lofton much a fan.
