The large figure of a nude female, who seems to be in a contemplative pose,
dominates the center of the composition. A few shapes and lines create a sense of volume in this painted female. A tense mood is created by a second male figure to the left, painted in a dark sinister blue shape, who may or may not have a malicious intent. To the right of the central figure, crammed into a narrow space, is the head of another female with a flowery hat who seems to be peeping or overseeing the interchange that is going on. The arrangement of figures and narrative reminds one of Gauguin’s Tahiti work. Is the proposal of a sinister nature? The large areas of color with very little modeling seen here remind us of the colors Gauguin used in his so called “primitive” paintings. The mood, similarly to Gauguin, is one of intrigue, shrouded in mystery.
