While the client and I talked in the studio, I started sketching out her ideas on a piece of brown packing paper lying on the workbench. As she talked about the concept of time and seasons changing and how a river flows through life carrying everything to and from somewhere, the images were forming in my head for this triptych. But the little sketch (long since lost) drawn on the scrap of paper did not convey enough detail, and was later refined into a collage that served as the inspiration for this commission. Each of the three panels transition between the seasons: spring to summer, summer to fall, and fall to winter.
