Daddy and Me
“Daddy and me, as happy as can be,
cuz Mommy accidently fell in the well
and is burning in hell,
where she deserves be,
for being so mean to Daddy and me.”
I wrote it down in crayon,
bright as the sun that never sets.
I sang it into the dark,
where her voice used to live.
Daddy says the rhyme makes it true—
that if I keep saying it,
her fire will keep burning,
and we will never be alone.
But sometimes, when I close my eyes,
I see her hands reaching from the well.
I see her eyes glowing yellow below,
and they don’t blame Daddy.
They blame me.
