The Mill is a woodblock print drawn from one of my original photographs and conceived as a symbol of mills everywhere—places of labor, transformation, and passage. While the image speaks broadly to industrial landscapes across time, it was specifically created in response to the closing of the last sugar mill on the island of Maui. The structure stands as both monument and memory, honoring generations of work while marking the end of an era that shaped the land, its people, and its rhythms. An original print from this series was acquired by the State of Hawaiʻi.
