‘Ohe poles are a tactile exploration of global pattern-language and wayfinding symbolism. Each surface is wrapped with paper printed from original woodblock carvings inspired by indigenous and tribal motifs encountered across cultures. Using hand-carved Shina plywood blocks, ink is transferred onto Shikishi paper to create rhythmic, organic patterning. The printed patterns are then meticulously wrapped and adhered to bamboo, transforming each pole into a vertical narrative of mark-making, memory, and interconnected visual traditions. The resulting ensemble reads as a procession of motifs that resonate like waypoints in a lived landscape — references to lineage, passage, terrain, and the ancestral intelligence woven into pattern itself.
