Journey to the Edge draws from the artist’s travels and treks across Patagonia’s rugged landscapes, evoking a pilgrimage through some of the world’s most remote and awe-inspiring terrain—often called “the end of the world.” Layered atop two base levels of woodblock prints on Sekishu Japanese paper, the work merges symbolic imagery from Rapa Nui (Easter Island) and Patagonia, connecting distant geographies through shared motifs of endurance, nature, and spirit. The first printed layer references the ancient birdman motif of Rapa Nui, while the second captures the shifting rhythms of Patagonia’s waters, mountains, and skies, experienced firsthand amid the region’s harsh yet breathtaking conditions. At its center, a Chilean condor soars across a glowing sun, both appliquéd from printed Sekishu paper, their colors carefully matched to the palette witnessed along the journey. Horizontal printed bars separate and balance the layers of earth, water, and sky, grounding the expansive imagery. At once a reflection on migration, endurance, and the search for meaning at nature’s edges, Journey to the Edge invites viewers to contemplate the beauty—and the challenge—of reaching the world’s furthest horizons.
