This vessel I created is a tribute to the multifaceted life of Marilyn Monroe, drawing inspiration from the iconic image of her skirt billowing in the wind while standing over a subway grate. This moment captures the duality of her existence, where glamour coexists with profound solitude. In my design, I intentionally left a single handle on the pot, a powerful symbol of the loneliness that often enveloped her. This artistic choice serves to illustrate that despite her status as a beloved cultural icon, her personal relationships were frequently transient and unfulfilled. The absence of a second handle poignantly underscores the superficial nature of some connections in her life, emphasizing the stark contrast between her vibrant public image and the private struggles she faced. Through this piece of pottery, I strive to express the intricate layers of her being, merging beauty with an underlying sense of longing and isolation, ultimately inviting the viewer to reflect on the complexities of her existence and the universal themes of love, loss, and the search for genuine connection.
