Ancient Rings 99
Remembering Jeweled Rings of Ancient Rome

In Ancient Rings 99, a bold amber form rises within the canvas of ivory rings, anchoring the vessel with a presence that feels both ancient and immediate. The amber shape reads as an inset—part window, part relic—recalling the weight and permanence of jeweled signet rings worn across centuries. It does not sit on the surface; it feels embedded, as if revealed rather than placed.

Surrounding it, a field of turquoise elements moves in quiet rhythm across the ivory structure. Each discrete piece—one of thousands—contributes to a larger geometry that bends and resolves through the vessel’s form. The pattern tightens and expands as it approaches the rim, where the grid opens and breathes, allowing light to enter and soften the structure.

The matte finish removes visual noise, diffusing light so that color relationships hold steady. The turquoise glows with a restrained clarity, while the amber retains its density and depth, creating a dialogue between luminosity and mass.

As with all works in the Ancient Rings series, the vessel is built through a process of accumulation—small decisions, repeated and refined, until a unified form emerges. In this piece, that process carries a quiet sense of memory: fragments assembled into something that feels as though it has always existed.

Ancient Rings 99 invites close looking. The longer one stays, the more the structure reveals—its balance of order and variation, its tension between precision and emergence, and the sense that the vessel, in some way, knows itself before it is fully seen.
