This is a second version of my "La Mamma" portrait that was sold over twenty years ago. This version is larger but very lose to the first painting. It is actually a portrait of Stefania Mastrocinque , the wife of a famous Italian director.
The original portrait was selected by Eugene, Oregon's past mayor, Jim Torey, as the "Mayor's Choice Award" during an annual Mayor's Art Show. He said he selected the work because it reminded him of his mother, a very strong woman, who refused to leave a cafe in Idaho that would not serve a Black child who accompanied him and his mother at that time on a trip.
