When I start a painting I start with random paper collage as a meditative process to get into my flow. Then I slowly build my painting by adding layers of paint and marks and after some time I start to see lines and images appear in the marks. I also see eyes appear in the paint and I love painting eyes. Eyes are the windows to our souls and when I paint eyes I feel and see who wants to appear in the paint. Inspired by the goddess Athena appearing in another painting I decided that the woman that appeared in this painting would be Hera the Greek goddess of women, marriage, family, and childbirth. I love the feeling when I understand what is happening in the creative process. The final touches are also a meditative process done with doodles and details added with a gel pen.
Hera is painted on a stretched 3D canvas ready to hang.
