When I start a painting I start with random paper collage as a meditative process to get into my flow. Then I slowly build my painting by adding layers of paint and marks and after some time I start to see lines and images appear in the marks. I let the text in the collage paper inspire me as well. The collage in the background of this painting is from an old dictionary and the pages are describing Astronomic geometry and old wisdom. I also see eyes appear in the paint and I love painting eyes. Eyes are the windows to our souls and when I paint eyes I feel and see who wants to appear in the painting. In this painting the Greek goddess Athena, associated with wisdom and handicraft, appeared. It is kind of magical when this happens and I love the feeling when I understand what is happening in the creative process. The final touches are also a meditative process done with doodles and details added with a gel pen.
Athena is painted on a stretched 3D canvas ready to hang.
