Jennifer Hill is a mixed media artist who currently resides in Syracuse, NY. She studied art in high school and college and has a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University in fashion design and a minor in fine art.
Her inspiration comes mainly from the beauty and organic quality of nature; from leaves, flowers, trees, and water. She tries to capture the essence of nature in soft, loose strokes, mostly done with a palette knife for a more abstract feel. Jennifer is currently working with acrylic paint. Her colors are soft pastel shades with accents of more vibrant hues. But her art does not consist of just paint alone, Jennifer draws on her experience as a couture seamstress by incorporating her love of embroidery and embellishment into her artwork.
"I've always been a painter at heart, but after years of working on couture garments, I just felt a desire to add something more three dimensional to my work. I love the richness of depth and texture that embroidery materials gives to my work."
Jennifer accomplishes this by adding different types of glitter, beads, sequins, rhinestones, crystals, ribbons, trims, and metallic paints to her work. She loves the shimmery reflective quality of these materials, which change in different lighting. She has also started using fabrics in her work as well. She likes to mix fabrics with different patterns and textures in her work. She plans to develop this idea even more in the future, focusing more on fabrics. She is always looking for new materials to use in her paintings, and is always excited about experimenting with new materials and techniques that will give her paintings more texture, shine, and sparkle.
