From the vantage point of the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge, anglers anchor their boats in the rushing waters of the Delaware, casting their lines downstream. This top-down perspective captures a fleeting moment of excitement as one fisherman reels in a catch while onlookers gather above, celebrating the rhythm of the river.
I submitted a similar painting of this same scene for the 2026 Jim Hamilton Memorial ShadFest Poster Scholarship Auction to raise money for scholarships for local students pursuing a degree in the arts.
One of the exciting things about ShadFest is standing on the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge and looking down on the fisherman from above as they anchor in the rushing water between piles. It's not unusual to see half a dozen boats anchored at once along the length of the bridge and I love watching them cast their lines down river to pull in their catch. This pair had multiple lines going and were reeling in one after another as the onlookers cheered from above. I loved this perspective looking into their boat from above and knew immediately that I wanted to turn this into a painting.
