The Allen Cottage on the North Shore of Squirrel Island has been our family's touchstone since approximately 1980. Squirrel Island is in the Gulf of Maine off of Boothbay Harbor. It was established as a summer community in 1871. The origin of the name refers to the shape of the island which, when seen from above, resembles a squirrel holding an acorn.
