After doing a few paintings based on the Sonoran Desert, I gravitated towards the brighter plants and flowers that could be found in more tropical climates. These flowers and plants are all from photographs I took in greenhouses and botanical gardens in and around D.C. The main flowers are a pink orchid and yellow cymbidium (boat) orchid. The red spiky flower here (Hohenbergia Stellata) is one of my favorites; it looks so exotic and dangerous.
