Inspired by the legendary Dr. John, The Gris-Gris Man emerged through a slow accumulation of wool, silk, and hand-applied embellishment. Built over weeks through wet felting, Nuno felting, and countless hours of needle felting, the portrait embraces labor as a form of devotion. Layers of texture and ornament echo the mysticism, ritual, and cultural memory embedded within New Orleans traditions. Rather than offering itself all at once, the work rewards sustained attention, inviting viewers to linger among its surfaces and discover the subtle interplay of fiber, light, and adornment.
