Island Love is inspired by living in Haiti. Living in Port au Prince is a life I miss. I took for granted the last time I heard the landing gear roll up into the belly of the plane. I always watched as we left the island. The small homes below. The water. Fishermen in their boats. The mountains would seemingly follow us as we journeyed. My basic accommodations have long been relinquished, and home is just home now. There is no shipping container I call my home away from home. I can’t supply updates to friends and family I would love to see. I continue to advocate, but I can’t provide a date that I will see their faces, kiss their cheeks and wrap my arms around their necks. Ayiti, mwen renmen ou. Anpil. Mwen pral kenbe yo.
