In contrast to women living in Anglicized cultures, women in Colonized cultures were often considered by those who are untraveled to Caribbean destinations to be "exotic", however, the Franco-identifying islands tended to be quite conservative largely. Many subscribed to anglicized spiritual and religious beliefs, and looked to fashion trends coming from Asia and Europe for influence. Women in exceedingly humid climates donned full formal attire complete with corsets, petticoats, full dresses or gowns with hoops, a pocket or apron, a shawl made of lace, as well as a variety of things that might have been worn on the head. Florals, hats, feathers and the like.
