For Love Of The Game
Dragon breath
Kissed by winds
That tumble
Through naked branches
With ancient horn
To stir the battle worn
And the lore of Gods
Created for the ages
On champion wind
With blades of steel
Their snow streaked breath
Came blowing
From Saskatoon to Thunder Bay
They Rode that zephyr train
To put us in our place
To lily pond, the rez and more
Where waits the landscape frozen
The Saugus boys stood
Eyes fixed, no words spoken
Laces taut, ash sticks held
By hands covered in tan leather
Defiant and accepting
To the challenge that was laid
To prove Americans too can play
As twilight silently fell
And spirits in evening fade
The scarring on that frozen pond
New found respect was born
A nod, a knowing,
Foe now friend, and all
For Love of the Game
For Love Of The Game
