Sometimes a piece painted at the first inspiration is so powerful that it becomes a seed idea that starts a whole new direction of work. This painting was one of these: the power and force it conveyed made me want to come back and explore the idea further. I have since played with the original reference image to create three increasingly larger works, all in different shapes and all with different feelings. There is something in this original smaller piece--an energy and freshness--that I find elusive and alive.
