Artist: Maria Alejandra Zanetta
I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I studied Fine Arts at the National School for the Arts. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, I moved to the United States to pursue interdisciplinary studies and the relationship between painting and literature. After receiving my doctorate in comparative literature and art at the Ohio State University, I joined the University of Akron.
My artwork is held by public and private collectors in the United States, South America and Europe such as The Ohio State University Newark Campus, The University of Akron Student Union, The Columbus Metropolitan Library, The Summa Health building Akron, The Summa Health Building Barberton, Akron-Summit Public Library, Leadership Akron, Bridgestone Americas Technical Center Akron, The Akron Land Bank, Federal Process Corporation Cleveland, Cleveland Art Association (CARTA) and The Ortega y Gasset Foundation, Toledo, Spain.
I love experimenting with different textures and mediums. Vibrant color and the interplay of texture and color are the fundamental building blocks of my art. In addition to mixed media pieces on canvas and wood panels, during the past years I have been exploring the creative options related to printmaking. Each one of my prints is developed in conjunction with a collage that gives it its distinct characteristics. The final result is a print that is bold, dynamic and unique.
