Majesty Cruise Line was a Norwegian cruise line that was founded in 1992 and merged into Norwegian Cruise Line in 1997. Majesty was created by Dolphin Cruise Line as a more upmarket brand. Majesty's first ship, the Royal Majesty, was originally ordered by competitor Birka Line for 24-hour cruise operations out of Stockholm. Following the bankruptcy of shipbuilder Wärtsilä, the contract was resold to Majesty. She initially worked three- and four-night cruises out of Florida, but in 1995 opened a new summer Boston-Bermuda route, terminating at St George's rather than the usual Hamilton in Bermuda. Royal Majesty returned to Florida in the winter. In June 1995, she ran aground on Rose and Crown shoal of Nantucket Island, due to a combination of faulty GPS and inadequate watch being maintained. Royal Majesty was 17 miles off course and was situated for 24 hours before tugs towed her.
Aegean Majesty was built as Veendam, the fourth S class/Statendam class ship, ordered following the success of her three sister ships. Her keel was laid by Fincantieri as Hull Number 5954 in 1994. The ship was launched on 24 June 1995 and completed in May 1996. Actress Debbie Reynolds became the ship's godmother, and sailed on her maiden voyage on 15 May 1996. The ship was the fourth Holland America Line ship to be named after the town of Veendam, Netherlands. Her registered owner was Wind Surf Ltd, and she was registered at Nassau, Bahamas.
Royal Majesty has changed its name and shipping company on several occasions since it was launched in 1992. The vessel was bought by the Norwegian Cruise Line in 1997 and travelled the seas as "Norwegian Majesty". When the luxury liner was transferred to the Louis Cruises in 2008, it was introcuced to the German market as "Louis Majesty". At the end of 2009, the Louis Cruises handed over the ship to Thomson Cruises and it was renamed "Thomson Majesty". The cruise liner formerly known as "Royal Majesty" is now called "Crown Iris" and belongs to the Israeli shipping company "Mano Maritime".
