Tirca Karlis was a major influence in bringing Modernism and its artists to Providence in the late 1950's. The artist and his family began to summer in Provincetown in 1958, and every season thereafter. Milton Avery was a particular favorite of Tirca's as she promoted the artist work during the entire existence of her gallery.
