Samuel Halpert was the child of Russian immigrants that settled in Brooklyn in the 1880's. He studied and traveled to Paris as a young man learning and absorbing the modernism of Europe of the time. He returned to New York and started an artist's community in New Jersey. This watercolor is influenced by American Impressionism.
