This painting was created at the Channon overlooking a local dam. In the evening the light reflected on the waters surface is strong making a perfect reflection of the Flooded Gum trees and blue sky above. The water itself is dark with tannins. The lotus break the waters surface and hold water drops in the centre of their leaves.
To paint this piece I went and sat on location with my giant canvas and worked fast to capture the fading light. I then returned to my studio and added final details.
I was of course inspired by Monet's waterlilies but this piece has an Australian bush feel.
