We are always so worried about what we eat, and how many protein grams we need to be in that salad for it to be considered "healthy". So, what happens when the food we munch on retaliates and suddenly, we need to be less concerned about what we are eating and more about the food feasting on us? In many ways, the nourishment we need is already consuming us without us knowing. We spend every waking moment thinking of our next meal, how many calories will be in that milk shake, and if we received all of the vitamins necessary for the day. We feel guilty if we overindulge ourselves or don't eat enough.
I created this artwork to highlight the mental stigma surrounding food and eating disorders. The base is made out of carboard hot glued together, covered in clay and painted. As for the interior components, the tomatoes are made purely out of hot glue, the lettuce is printer paper crumpled and wetted with water, the cheese is cardboard covered in hot glue to smooth the surface, the lunch meat is composed of air-dry clay the same kind as the bread. Lastly, the tongue is shaped out of tinfoil and covered with clay. All of the elements are painted with either or Acrylic and Gouache paint.
