When I travel to the south of France, one of my favorite activities is to sketch and watercolor at the outdoor markets. And while I'm there, I might as well shop! I love French flea markets! On a recent trip, I shopped for small bits of antique lace, handwork and linens and found many of the pieces for this small art quilt. I composed this piece using the vintage cloth and lace purchased on my trip to France. I added an image transfer of a bird that I'd painted in watercolor and layered antique looking paper with a Parisian postmark and a drawing of a bird. Lastly, I used my sewing machine to free-motion stitched a peony ( I saw lots of peonies in the markets in France) and a fleur-de-lis. I love to create a work of art based on travel. it helps me reflect and relive parts of my adventures abroad.
Measures 13 by 13 inches.
