Some paintings take quite awhile to develop. Others site in one state for some time waiting to find their final state. This one is both. It looked very different for a year - and I didn't like what it looked like and was frustrated with the direction it was going. Then, I brought it to my easel and flipped it upside down with the intention of painting over the whole thing and starting over- and started heavily editing again. Strong emotions started pouring out. This surprising result arose. Much like that mythical animal, it brings to my mind a phoenix, rising from the ashes.
