Artist: Joan Madge
Joan Madge (Mrs J Winlove-Smith of Crooklets, Bude) has painted for a number of years, following an art training in Sussex, Plymouth School of Art and the Central Schoolof Art (London). Her work became known when her painting "Homage", depicting the Lying-in-State of the late Sir Winston Churchill, was purchased by His Grace the Duke of Marlborough. This painting now hangs in the birthroom of the late Sir Winston Churchill at Blenheim Palace. She also painted in Greece with studies of the Greek Islands, the Aegean Sea and Athens, as well as the more familiar landscapes and sea-scapes of Cornwall and Devon.
