At first glance the mountain pine forests look a homogeneous green mass, but you quickly see how various and complex it is. This is one of a series observing the characteristics of different species. The Jeffrey Pine can get to 500 years old. This stand wasn't at that mark I think, but was scarred by wildfires and smelt of butterscotch.
