This piece was created in the shadow of the California wildfires—a time marked by uncertainty, grief, and an eerie stillness that settled even miles from the flames. As I painted, I wasn’t consciously documenting the moment, but it found its way in regardless. The result is Wildfire—a layered meditation on upheaval and transformation.
The palette blends scorched earth tones with waves of cool teal and green, capturing both the heat of destruction and the quiet aftermath. Torn fragments of text are embedded like whispered thoughts or half-remembered headlines—evidence of a world disrupted, yet still speaking. Each mark feels both deliberate and instinctual, echoing the way fire can both ravage and renew.
Though small in scale, this piece holds the weight of regeneration. Beneath every charred edge is the possibility of growth. Wildfire is not just about what was lost, but what may rise in its place.
