In the spring of 2020, I was invited by my second grade teacher to visit her class virtually to talk about high school and some of the racial justice work I was doing. The experience was so chaotic, but so full of life. The kids were inquisitive, effervescent, and impressively resilient. I wanted to capture their vitality and the hope and optimism they symbolize.
I think this image embodies our collective experience of the juxtaposition of the more abstract chaos of the pandemic with the quotidian realities of adjusting daily life to a "new normal."
I also love how Zoom provides glimpses into individual worlds. With each panel, I tried to capture the idiosyncrasies and minutiae of the environment.
