This piece is a dialogue with the past, a reimagining of a kinder relationship to myself. The original text is a kind of composite journal entry, composed of excerpts from my actual journal, written during the depths of a depressive episode. Wielding a red ballpoint pen — the ultimate tool of error-correction – I reach out a hand to myself. The overlaid annotations serve to challenge my past catastrophizing and self-flagellation, grant forgiveness and grace, and offer myself the care that I needed.
