Mary Ann ask Laurel to do some sample butterflies as a resource for a public art installation Mary Ann was commissioned to do at University of Texas in San Antonio. Although Laurel’s butterfly images never became a part of the 2002 installation she was over the moon to help cut stencils for the installation “recuerdo” (after Tomas Rivera).

Recuerdo (after Tomas Rivera) focuses on the writing of Tomas Rivera, a revered Chicano writer, activist, and educator.
