When missing my home country, The Netherlands, I buy myself a large bouquet of tulips. I call it my need for “a bucket full of Tulips”. I order them at my local flower store. Strange enough you can get them here year-round. I place them always at the same spot on my dining table, right in front of this horse painting, which I painted one day before 9/11.
Although tulips don’t last long in a vase, they have their own beauty at every stage from flowering to wilting. I have photographed this process over and over for years. It is my cure for homesickness.
