Does it only happen in Oklahoma? That transformation of the grey and beige-toned winter landscape with its yellow grass and bare trees? When the days get longer and the temperatures warm and spring storms bring the much-needed rain it happens. Suddenly, overnight, Oklahoma turns green. So bright that it almost hurts your eyes. The grass is ready for its first cut, the redbud is in full bloom, the wildflowers are out, and the first green leaves appear on the trees. Then there is no turning back, the landscape changes into a green oasis. If there is one thing we know in Oklahoma, it is that nature is unstoppable. Perfectly, Spring Cannot be Canceled.
This grid of nine embroidery paintings is my impression of Oklahoma Spring. Rooted, literally, by my good old Eastern Cottonwood tree behind my studio.
