I named this painting - Terry's House.
⠀
Like many Kelowna residents, my husband Andrey and I, we like to walk around the Abbott Heritage Area.
⠀
One day in the fall of 2019, I noticed a two-story, fairly large house, with a green roof from damp winds, standing on the waterfront a block from the Abbott Street.
⠀
The house was clearly built in the 20-30s of the 20th century.
But I could not find a single historical reference about him.
⠀
Choosing houses for my project “Heritage Homes in Kelowna”, my thoughts kept coming back to this house.
⠀
And after some time, once again, walking by, we met the owner of the house.
His name is Terry.
⠀
Upon learning of my desire to draw his house, he shared family stories.
⠀
He also showed me an old photo of the house, in the first years after construction.
⠀
It formed the basis of the picture :-))
⠀
A beautiful light house with striped awnings on the windows from the sun, as was customary at the time. A sunny day, a blue lake and a boat from which Terry's father participated in the regatta as a young man.
⠀
The house was built by the grandfather of the current owner. He was an excellent engineer for irrigation systems, a highly sought-after specialist for fruit companies and orchards.
⠀
The house was built by himself, on the coastline, contrary to the practice at that time to build houses away from the lake with its floods and mosquitoes. And he made the right decision. Years have passed, there are no floods and mosquitoes for a long time, and the house is now located in the most beautiful part of Kelowna, on the first coastline, which is so appreciated by today's home owners.
⠀
And also, Terry's grandfather built popular boats for the first regattas in Kelowna, here in the courtyard, in a workshop specially equipped for this
