Reproduction in a hand-crafted frame of Harnett's well-known, trompe de l'oeil painting "The Old Violin" of 1886 in the National Gallery of Art. The violin likely is a Guarneri "Cremona" of 1724 owned by Harnett himself; the music is from Bellini's "La Sonnambula" ("Vi ravviso, o luoghi ameni") and "Hélas quelle douler" by Edmond Servel. The envelope has Harnett's New York address while the postmark reads Paris Avril 86 (Harnett returned from Paris that year), providing the painting's date. Donated to IRC by the estate of IRC resident Ellie Roberts.
