Inscribed lower right, "Engraved, Printed, & Colored by R. Havell, London, 1835". Three years earlier, in Charleston, S.C. , the great American ornithologist John James Audubon wrote that thousands of snowy egrets had arrived there, "all in full plumage." Shortly afterwards he painted this magnificent bird, which was reproduced in his famous "The Birds of America," of which this is a limited-edition facsimile. Gift of Shelly and Gerry Elliott, IRC residents.
