A page from Thomas L. McKenney and and James Hall's "History of the Indian Tribes of North America," which contains biographical sketches and anecdotes of Native Americans, first published 1836-44. The majority of the plates were based on paintings by Charles Bird King, who had been employed by the War Department for the project (most of whose paintings were destroyed by a fire at the Smithsonian). Also see the entry in this database, Six Native Americans, for other plates from the octavo edition. Donated by IRC resident Amy Millen.
