A lawyer by profession who specialized in mental health law, Lou Kaplan studied art at the Corcoran School of Art and in Florence, Italy. Presumably he made this while in the Italian town of Bellosguardo (lit. beautiful view) near Salerno. Donated by the widow of the artist, Sally Kaplan.
