John Piper (1903-92) was a British painter, printmaker, and designer of stained glass and opera and theater sets. He became especially well known as an official War Artist during WW II. (The Tate in London has 180 of his works.) Throughout his career he created images with "foliate" (i.e., covered with leaves) heads. Donated by IRC resident Anne Hobler.
