  • Artist: Gage Caldwell (Northern Arapaho)

Born in the Pacific Northwest, Gage Caldwell has always had an imaginative mind. Always thinking and processing how pieces can fit together as an art piece. From a young age, he played video games and created characters to defeat evil sorcerers. With Legos, he built anything from massive cities to futuristic vehicles. As he grew older, he discovered his way around a sketchpad, using different colors and shapes. Now, as an adult, he enjoys using digital software to bring his ideas to life.

Gage, always a reserved and quiet person, found a way to express himself through his artwork. With his tough childhood came tough outcomes in life. Growing up with depression and anxiety, he often found making friends simply impossible. However, in his younger years, he developed a love for video games, the adventures, the characters, and the artwork that they offer. Video games are one of the ways Gage developed a creative mind. From Final Fantasy to Legend of Zelda, he found a deep connection with the characters and their worlds. Just like video games, Legos came into play, allowing Gage to get hands-on and creative. Of course, putting together what was on the box was fun, but what he loved more was getting creative with the pieces and making something even crazier and far better. These two things in Gage's life helped diminish his sadness and anxieties, creating a snowball effect in his creative life.

In school, Gage's favorite subjects were Art and Computer class, allowing him to delve further into his creative side, learn more about the mediums to use, and have more hands-on opportunities. Gage gained the opportunity to learn about Adobe Suite and what it has to offer, allowing him to edit photos, create illustrations on the computer, and even assemble scenes for a short film. With years of learning, Gage came to realize that creation and design were something he wanted to pursue in adulthood. Becoming an art major or getting a degree in computer science was something he became earnest in after high school.

After graduating from high school, Gage decided to take the next step in his life by returning to school to earn his degree in graphic design. After his research, he knew it might be a harsh world out there with so much competition, but designing was something he truly loved, and he wanted to express himself through art when his words were not enough. Gage attended a two-year college and completed his studies, earning an associate degree in Graphic Design. However, Gage didn't want to stop there; after completing his two years, he decided to return to school and pursue his bachelor's degree.

Today, Gage is working towards his Bachelor's in Graphic Information Technology (GIT) at Arizona State University online. He hopes to complete this in hopes of more job and career opportunities. Currently, Gage works in social media, including TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, to attract people to the company where he works. He also volunteers in graphic design and educates people on ancient studies.
