Sinopia – underdrawing for fresco made with reddish, greenish or brownish earth color with water brushed on the Arriccio layer. The Intonaco, final plaster layer on which the actual painting is carried on, is applied over. Sinopia becomes hidden beneath it, hidden within the wall.
