Artist: Mark Walp
Mark David Walp was born in 1954 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He received his high school education at the Moravian Academy in Bethlehem, PA and attended Skidmore College, where he graduated with a history degree in 1977. He later briefly studied painting in a Masters of Fine Arts program at Brooklyn College.
Since the late 1970’s, Walp has lived on an Adirondack homestead near Friends Lake in Chestertown. His paintings and drawings, done from the imagination, are a general reflection of life there. In recent years, he has completed an illustrated farm novel entitled “Britchcoat In The Great Round World.” Set in the distant future, it is inspired by the geography and cultural history of the Upstate New York region.
When acquiring new art, Hudson Headwaters seeks pieces that contribute to the ongoing creative culture of our community. Local and regional artists are always given first consideration.
