Artist: Johane Gareau
Montreal-born French Canadian artist Johane Gareau became a Saratogian in 2008. Her work has since been a constant feature of the Saratoga Springs arts scene. Trained in the medical arts, she practiced in hospital laboratories for over a decade, but always kept up a keen interest in the arts. She is passionate about early 20th Century French impressionism and the vibrant experimental art scene of this period.
Her work was recognized in Canada with the Academos Prize awarded by the Quebec’s Academy of Fine Arts in 2013. Over the years, she has gained experience with a wide range of
techniques and media, and built a sizable collection such as: abstract organic pastels, acrylic paintings capturing the dynamics of Saratoga, Springs’ dance scene and horse culture.
When acquiring new art, Hudson Headwaters seeks pieces that contribute to the ongoing creative culture of our community. Local and regional artists are always given first consideration.
