Artist: Betsy Brandt
“In this series of radial, floral-inspired works, I combine the mediums of transparent watercolor and opaque gouache. The watercolor lends a luminous quality while the gouache indulges my love of flatness and pattern. The juxtaposition of contrasting colors and mediums creates a spatial ‘push and pull’ as new floral/biological species emerge through the layers.”
Betsy Brandt grew up in Queensbury—on the slopes of West Mountain. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Philadelphia College of Art and her Master of Fine Arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Brandt’s artwork has been exhibited in galleries and museums since 1987. Her art crosses media distinctions, ranging from paint-ing, drawing and sculpture, to installation and ceramics.
When acquiring new art, Hudson Headwaters seeks pieces that contribute to the ongoing creative culture of our community. Local and regional artists are always given first consideration.
