The boxer in this picture is Gerry Cooney who was a contender for the heavyweight boxing championship in 1982. His opponent, Larry Holmes, won the bout and championship. Holmes allegedly said after the fight, “I didn't fight this fight for the blacks, the whites or the Spanish, I fought the fight for the people. We're all God's children. I don't see color. I'm not a racist. When I look at Gerry Cooney, I just see a man trying to take my head off.” That quotation, though engaging, is not verified. How would you go about tracing this to a verifiable source? Ask your professor for research techniques in verifying accuracy.
Some critical educational questions raised by this work are: How have you seen people make peace when there are arguments based on race or religion? How could we raise our children without prejudice?
